The Decus Educational Trust

Whitehill End of Term Bulletin: July 24th 2024

Dear Parents, Carers & Families,

We end the year with a number of positives. Last Friday we had a double celebration of talents with the Summer Music Concert and the school talent show. The year 6 students triumphed in the performances of Shakespeare Rocks! All shone in our recent Sports’ Day events and week-on-week we have seen our children flourish in our Wow Work Celebration Assemblies. We have included a selection of photos that we hope capture some of these moments in this bulletin for you.

Whole School Talent Show

Reflecting upon the academic year as it comes to a close, it is encouraging to consider the journey of the school; the improvements and developments that have taken place thus far, the lessons that we have learnt along the way and those further plans to which we are committed to making a reality. Seeing the impact of our rapidly improving curriculum adds impetus to further improvements in the year ahead.

Whilst Ofsted gave validation to much of the changes that have been made, it is in the students that we seek to measure our success. To that end, we are very proud of all of our pupils’ achievements and the progress they have made this year especially when we consider the obstacles that some face. On a day-to-day basis we see the children epitomise our school values: working together harmoniously, showing autonomy in their learning, being noble in their actions, showing determination when things are tricky and being true to their spirit - being happy in themselves and special things that make them unique). Well done to you all!

In addition, we are so proud to have such wonderfully skilled, dedicated, caring and compassionate staff  who regularly go ‘above and beyond’ in supporting our children to blossom and learn. Our work is made easier when we are supported by the families, parents and carers who make up our community. Thank you to all who root for and support our pupils in some way!

Year 6 Residential to Thriftwood

Year 6 Performance of Shakespeare Rocks!

Our year 6 pupils have come a long way in the time that they have been with us and are most definitely ready to take that next step into Secondary Education.

We have a message for our Year 6 Students:

/i/video/website-friendly_xC2oyqfD.mp4

You are an awesome group of individuals. We cannot wait to hear of the amazing things that you go on to achieve . Remember, we are always here, you are always welcome to give us a visit and let us know what you have been up to.

This year, we are sadly saying goodbye to several members of the Whitehill Team. We would like to wish Mrs Mills and Mrs Bird both a very happy retirement and to thank them for their many years of service to the school. We also bid farewell to Miss Butcher who is leaving to pursue headship, Miss Cassin who has successfully acquired a promotion, Mrs Harris who is looking to have more time with her baby and Mrs Sharma who has been offered a position nearer to home. We wish them all the very best of luck as they go forward, and would like to thank them all on behalf of the Staff and Pupils for their service to our School and Community.

We would like to welcome Miss Turk, Mrs Cuffley and Miss Mohamed. We hope that you enjoy being part of the Whitehill team!

Andy Pinder, the mural artist who painted our canteen last year kindly offered to paint one of the School's Out Wraparound Care rooms for free. After consulting the classes across the school, the Student Council suggested various themes for the painting and Andy with the help of our year 6 students created this fabulous mural:

Thank you Andy and all those in year 6 who assisted ! We shall not forget our students' contribution to this stunning piece of art.

We would also like to thank Tina Weedon from Thamesview School who has given up her time and resources to support Mrs Gardner and the children with setting up a Forest School Area. We are looking forward to rolling out Forest School learning experiences to all of our children across the school next year. Each term a different year group will have the opportunity to participate in Forest School activities. More information is to follow on this next academic year.

Thank you also to Carrie-Ann Barton, her family, Jade Price and the Foresters Care Charity that Carrie-Ann put us in touch with ! The Foresters Care charity has funded all manner of items at the school. All of which improve the students' life and learning experiences. They have funded sanatory products, breakfast cereal bars, water bottles, story sacks, resources for Forest School and also some of the plants that will shortly appear in the recently transformed quad which has now been furnished as an outdoor learning space.

Thank you to Mr Williams for your support and the resources that you have donated to Forest School.

Thank you to Northfleet Technical College for inviting our year 5 students to the pantomine that you so kindly put on!

Thank you to Mrs Hurley for the loan of the banner for our year 6 farewell!

Wishing you all a happy and safe Summer. We look forward to seeing you all back on Tuesday 3rd September!

Best wishes,

Mrs Angela Carpenter Headteacher & the Whitehill Team
