Weekly Bulletin: Friday 15th November 2024
Dear Parents, Carers & Families,
This week our year 3 students have enjoyed their local trip to Windmill Hill. Whilst there, they impressed their teachers with both their behaviour and their knowledge of physical and human features. The students made some detailed observations which they recorded through drawings - Well done!
Year 3 Geography - Observational Drawings
Today, as part of their historical studies, our year 1 students attended a local war memorial. Again, the teacher’s were very impressed with their behaviour and learning - Well done!
At the beginning of this week assembly time was devoted to Armistice Day. Along with holding two minutes of silence to remember those that have suffered through war, one of our year 6 students brought their bugle into school and played the ‘Last Post.’ Thank you Elliot, your rendition was very moving!
For the remainder of the week our attention has moved from conflict to the topic of friendships and bullying. In lessons and through assemblies the children have been exploring the idea of respect - how by respecting one another’s rights to feel safe and happy, we can make a stand against bullying behaviours.
We recognise that bullying behaviours often stem from quite complex problems and therefore ‘Anti-bullying Week’ alone is not sufficient to fully challenge them. Work on these themes will continue throughout the school year however, the specific focus on anti-bullying this week has provided a platform for some in-depth reflection. All of the children have completed a survey in their classes and through this survey have had the opportunity to share their insights and experiences regarding safety and friendships. We are always looking to learn more about our students’ experiences of school and how we can improve this for them so would be grateful if you too could give some time to complete our Anti-Bullying Parent Questionnaire. Please click HERE to access this form - Thank you for your support in this!
With the days turning more wintry, we would like to take this opportunity to remind you of our Severe Weather Plan. Please click HERE and read our guidance so that you are fully aware of what will happen should we have any severe weather, snow and ice - Thank you!
Please be reminded that we have Parent Consultation Evenings next. Please click HERE for further details.
Have a lovely week everyone.
Best wishes,

Attendance
The foundations of learning are laid in the Primary years of schooling and so Whitehill Primary School is committed to making sure that our children do not miss out on the education and care that we offer. Regular attendance is critical if our pupils are to be happy, successful and benefit from the opportunities presented to them now and in the future.
Good attendance is fundamental to a successful and fulfilling school experience. We actively promote 100% attendance for all our pupils and we use a variety of rewards and incentives to promote good attendance and punctuality. Awards are group focused rather than given to individuals as we recognise that our students cannot help being absent for medical reasons.
Below, you can see this week's attendance data. The stars indicate the year groups who were awarded 5 minutes extra Green Time for topping everyone else's attendance:
